High Mileage tire suggestions por favor
« on: July 13, 2010, 08:23:44 AM »

Hi all,

I put around 25k miles on my 07 MCS every year, so I need something that will have some treadlife to it.  I do like to drive a little fast but I don't think I need ultra sticky or W rated tires.  Suggestions on some high mileage tires that still have some performance value please !!!

Cheers,

Fast Taxi

Short answer: No "sticky" long-life tires exist. How high mileage are you looking? There are some 500+ treadwear tires out there. They also have no grip.

I'm not a fan of these (but I'm not focused on mileage either) but I know quite a few folks who have had these: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=Exclaim+UHP&partnum=045WR7EUHP&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes On thier cars of varying types and seem to be fairly happy with them. Treadwear of 380 should get you 30-40k miles while not being complete rocks. Cheap too at $96/tire.

Has anyone tried using 15' wheels with higher profile tires?
I would think that would help.
But I only got about 15,000 on my dunlops that were on 15' wheels.
Am I just opening a bag of worms?

Mostyn, I don't think fifteen foot wheels will fit without some modifications...  Yep.  There's the worms.

The air is thin up here. I meant 15" wheels. Thanks Dave. I stand before you totally confused.

The taller profile tire (assuming it isn't a run flat) would soften up the ride but woul not affect the treadlife. The tread depth on a 55 all season is quite close to the tread depth of a 40 profile all season. The height of the tire doesn't affect the tread very much at all in passenger tires.

I think maybe Mostyn was suggesting that due to more "give" in the taller sidewall, that tread life might be extended...  It's the sort of non-linear thinking we've come to expect from him.  I think it might be a reasonable idea.

Dave, Well spoken. Especially for a guy with a yellow box stuck to his forehead. You might consider joining me in the Mad Cow Motoring Club in a few years.
The point I was trying to make, although a bit banally, you would drive slower around the corners cuz they don't stick as well and therefore they would wear better.

Heck I'm just trying to sell my 15" wheels and tires. (they are on craigslist)
