replacing clutch 2005 Mini Cooper S

alright so i tried to back up a steep hill and i smoked the clutch pretty bad.  it won't go into gear now, but that night it did to get it off the hill and into the parking spot.
has anyone replaced it themselves?   could it be something else?    any way to know if i need a new clutch?
i'm in cencal, ((modesto)) anyone have any connections to help me out i'm in the military and need to get back down south in two days
