NEED HELP.... Mirror Assembly
« on: July 21, 2008, 05:42:18 PM »

Hey everyone,

My MINI is in the body shop due to a minor accident, but they are having trouble finding a part.

The passenger side mirror broke off and needs to be replaced. They have the motor, glass, cap, but they are unable to find a mirror assembly.

The body shop has been in contact with Assael MINI?s parts department, but they have sent them two wrong mirror assemblies and say that mine was never a mirror available for MINI?s. They said there are only two mirror options, a mirror that does not fold and a mirror that folds and heats.

My mirror folds, but does not heat. Assael could not find this in their systems so the body shop sent my broken mirror to them as proof.

My question:

Does anyone know anywhere I can find this mirror assembly, or happen to know anyone who can help in this situation?

2002 MCS

Any information would be greatly appreciated, see as though I am just trying to get this part so they can finish my MINI.  angry4

Thank You,
Chad

My mirrors also fold, but don't heat.
I sounds like MINI designed two versions of mirror assembly.
The "deluxe" version folds and has a heater.
Then, during assembly, they just hook up the heater or not.

That is IT!
You are right.
What's wrong with those guys.

I really don't know but this is so in many cars. They even have the wiring for the 6 CD changer in lotsa cars but don't hook it up.
Why make different parts when you just don't have to hook them up.

I would go with what erik says.

That is you erik, isn't it?  I think I recognize the shoes.

That is what my body shop thought as well. They were sent the heated mirror, so they tried to mount it. The only difference they could see, right off the bat, was there were two wires for the heating element. However, I was told when they tried to plug the mirror in for the electrical the plug was different, so that is why that mirror would not work.

Does anyone know if the two mirrors would have different plugs?

Thanks,
Chad

You have a 2002 MCS correct? I can find out from parts what the mirror is and get all of that information for you if you would like. If you want me to check on this for you please PM me the last 7 of your vin nubmer (it starts with a T) and I will find out about the mirror assembly for your MINI!

I did not think they made a heated mirror in 2002 i know we did not make a power folding mirror than either. i just verified that with a tech and he said no powerfold in 2002. I will get you information on the mirror if you need it or would like for me to do so

Amanda,

I have PMed you.

The mirror is not power folding. It only folds in if I were to push it with my hands. I was told the other mirror does not fold at all.

Thanks,

Thank You to everyone who gave an input, but I want to especially thank Amanda! She went above and beyond to verify the part I needed and got everything squared away!

Thanks Again,
