Roosters Holiday Food Drive set for Dec. 17, 2017
« on: October 01, 2017, 11:10:36 AM »

Let's continue to feed the hungry.
It's what Lowell would want us to do.

22nd Annual Roosters Foundation Food Drive
December 17, 2017

Time:  8:00 a.m.
Where:  The Second Harvest Food Bank  (indoors, so no need to worry about weather)
Irvine Great Park inside the old El Toro Marine Base  (near the Big Orange Balloon)  -- 8014 Marine Way

Note: There is a new entrance and route to get to the Second Harvest Food Bank. The food bank is in the same location, but the entrance is now on the other side of the Great Park. Here is a map they sent us: http://www.feedoc.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/2016_Food_Bank_Detour.pdf

SCMM Meet-Up:  7:15 a.m. at McDonald's / Starbucks , 24511 Trabuco Rd, Lake Forest (cross of Bake Pkwy & Irvine Blvd)
Please note that this is a NEW MEET-UP LOCATION.

On Sunday, December 17, 2017, the Roosters Foundation will hold their annual food drive to provide dinners for 3,000 needy families. Please join us as we continue a club tradition that SCMM member Lowell Dickson got us involved with starting in 2007.

The food packing is a success largely because of the 250+ volunteers that participate from Roosters, family, friends, the community and members of the military. Each food box includes an 18-lb. turkey and all the traditional trimmings. We estimate these boxes will feed 24,000 people including hungry children and their families. With clockwork precision, the Roosters and volunteers will pack and distribute these 3,000 boxes of food. The boxes are picked up by over 40 different Orange County organizations and distributed by them to the needy families they support.

You'll be one of the 250+ volunteers who will pack 3,000 boxes of food to feed the hungry this holiday season.  It may sound like a daunting task, but the Roosters have been doing this for 20 years and they have the system down to a science.  With military-like precision and assembly-line speed, these holiday food boxes will be packed up and shipped out within a couple of hours.

It's a good cause, it's fun, you'll meet lots of cool people and they provide some of the best soft tacos for lunch!
Please post if you plan to attend.

Our history with the Roosters Foundation
Every year at the Roosters Food Drive, Lowell Dickson collected donations from the SCMM members that came to work at the food drive. The money raised was donated to the Roosters Foundation to help pay for the food drive expenses. Again this year we hope to make a significant financial donation in Lowell's name on behalf of SCMM members. At club and regional events between now and Dec. 17th, look for the Rooster Piggy Bank being passed around, and please donate a few bucks. Even spare change will help. We'll update this thread with a running total of the donations collected. It would be terrific to be able to present the Rooster Foundation with at least $1,000.

Donations are Needed
The funds to purchase the food comes from Rooster sponsored events, individual Rooster members, corporate and
other individual donations. Each food box costs approximately $25 and feeds a family of eight. Roosters Foundation is a
501(c)3 non-profit and 90% of the food drive costs are used to purchase the food - the remainder is for trucks and other
hard expenses. No administrative expenses are incurred. For more information, go to www.roosters.org. With your help,
we will truly make a difference in the lives of those we serve and will renew a family's spirit during the holiday season.

How to Donate
Participation in the Food Drive event does not require a donation, however, if you would like to support this effort with a monetary donation, we'd like to give the Roosters Foundation one envelope of checks from SCMM members. So from now until December 17th, you can mail a check to SCMM (1835-A So. Centre City PKWY Box 165, Escondido CA 92025), or bring it on the day of the food drive. Just be sure to make the check payable to: ROOSTERS FOUNDATION FOOD DRIVE.  Sorry, no PayPal option for this.

Donations to Date
$838
Please help us move this number!

Wow...we've been doing this for 10 years??  It used to be a few hundred people in a parking lot in Irvine and it's grown to a huge charity event.

We'll be there in our holiday spirit!

Cock-a-doodle-do ... let's fill up that Rooster Bank with your loose change and any amount you can generously donate to the Rooster Fund...  Lowell would be proud of our efforts to keep the momentum going ...  see you at the Holiday Food Drive on December 17 when  we will present the organization with our final funds collected ...
